The elephant is the worlds largest land mammal. There are only 690,000 left in the wild. Their main threat is poaching for the ivory market. Many governments have inadequate resources to protect the elephants. It is estimated that 12,000 elephants are killed every year to fuel the ivory trade. Elephants are also threatened due to loss of habitat due to logging, agriculture, infrastructure development and human settlement. As a result when elephants try to find food they run into humans which can cause conflicts.
